Smart-Phones, Handle it more securely..!!!

Smarts-phone are available everywhere these days. We can see iPhones, Androids, Blackberry on every users hand. I must say they all are computers with cellular communications features. Unlike a traditional cell phone, these devices are capable to handle broad area of applications, can send/receive emails, can surf Internet and equipped with better CPU and memory, various communication media such as bluetooth, Wi-fi.

Whoooo.. Opps I missed one things above. All these embedded in real SEXY body. So before touching such sexy/slim body, I mean smarts-phone, I would suggest few very important security tips, which will helps to use spart-phone securely.

To begin with, First recommendation is to have a use of strong password. This might somehow protect the data even if your phone lost. On the top of that use of data encryption software to encrypt all the personal data is more secure.

Similarly, another major risk factor is use of email or web. Since these phone are capable to handle the email (not only text but also embedded html link/attachment) and web very well. Thus it is very important to open any malicious link/attachment that is sent on email. I would recommended to use very well known websites from mobile phone. If you are in public/free Wifi, then the attack vector increase. Someone might be running firesheep like tools to hijack your facebook/twitter session. So always use SSL encryption (https) whenever it is possible.

Again, try to turn the wifi/bluetooth off. If you have turned these on, there is a high possibility to communicate with free wifi and start sending data. As I mention earlier on public network, some bad-guy might be running various tools to grab your data.

Another things is, try to install trusted and limited application which you need. The things is, the more application you installed, The higher changes for more vulnerable. Even if you need to install the application, use trusted source, read review of that software, read the terms of condition very carefully before installing any application. Application from un-trusted source may harm you phone as well as send the data to attacker once it gains the access to the phone.

TIme to update, Yes keep checking for available updates of both Operating system and installed application too.

What if I lost it ???

Big question.... Best answer is, always use strong band on phone :p. Store your IMEI No safe. This will help to track your cell phone from service provider. Beside that, your data is far more important. Some phone/application allow you to wipe the data remotely once that phone comes online. But you have to backup your data.

Oh yes, another simple but very big potential threads is, whenever you need to give phone to maintenance people, Then there might be chances to lost the private data. So remove memory card before handing to maintenance people. you can back-up the data and wipe it properly then hand in.

So, I hope these few tips will helps to protect your smart-phones some extent. Stay SAFE

A letter to Google

Dear Google,
Thank you for providing the amazing services. I am really enjoying few service among your numerous services.
Now, I would like to request to put the option to choose a different password for different services. I really don't like to use a single password for other service. Of-course it is really easy and smart way to manage all the service using same user-name and password but  I want different password for different user. This will help me in following way,
for instance, If I want to subscribe Google calender in my mobile, I have to provide the Gmail password for calender service in my mobile, which is really  awkward. Another example, In my Laptop, where I always login to Gmail, if someone gain the access somehow (which is almost impossible due to use of certain level of security) then he can easily access to my Google docs without providing the password. I have linked with other services like Youtube and others. Wouldn't it be great, if you can have a individual password for each service so that  we can provide the different password for calender in my mobile device. I don't want to login to Gmail using my Mobile phone with some reason (of-course privacy). I feel more secure when I feel no one can view my Google docs even if they gain access to my Laptop.

I tried to find such option in current service but didn't find any. let me know of there are such features. I'd be grateful, if I can have such features.

Regards
Earlier Gmail adopter.

Fun time

Few experiment

1. Go to
www.boomproxy.com and enter www.hidemyass.com in the "Enter site URL" Box. then it will open a www.hidemyass.com inside boomproxy. again enter boomproxy.com inside hidemyass.com then surf whatever you want. You can increase this loop for few more times.

2. Go to bing.com and search google then search the keyword inside the Google.

Just for fun.
BTW I use TOR/Polipo to avoid the any Geo restriction and it helps to keep the browsing anonymity.
